Quebec Olympic Athletes: Patrice Bergeron

Patrice Bergeron plays hockey for the Boston Bruins but will be part of Team Canada for the 2010 Winter Olympics.

I chose to write about hockey because my mom owned a hair salon and at the hair salon she cut hockey players’ hair (but not Patrice’s). Some of the hockey players names are: Baby Smith (he was the oldest player she knew),He played for the Montreal Canadiens. She also knew Brian Bellow, number 23 of the Montreal Canadiens who she was friends with and went to his cottage. Them came Paul Depietro, she also knew Mike Keane, Vincent Damphouse and Lyle Odeline who were all part of the team who won the Stanley Cup in 1993.

Patrice was born on July 24′th 1985 at L’ancienne – Lorette, He weighs 194 pounds, His height is 6 ft 1 in, His position is center and he holds his hockey stick with his right hand. Continue reading

Quebec Olympic Athletes: Kim St-Pierre

Kim St-Pierre is a goaltender on our 2010 Canadian Olympic hockey team. She is 5’9″ tall and weighs 156 lbs. The team she plays for is the Montreal Stars (CWHL).

 

St-Pierre was born December 14th, 1978 in Chateauguay QC. She has two brother and still has both her mom and dad. Kim is the first women to have won a regular season game with the men’s hockey team when McGill University defeated Ryerson University in 2003. Kim catches from her left hand and shoots from her left too. Her previous competitions were in Salt Lake City (2002) and Turin (2006). She speaks two languages, French and English. Her National team head coach is Melody Davidson; Assistant coaches -Doug Lidster, Peter Smith and the club coach is Yan Cloutier. Continue reading

Quebec Olympic Athletes: Marc-André Bédard

This year the Winter Olympics are located in Vancouver, Canada. The Winter Olympics occur every 4 years.

The male Olympic athlete that I chose is Marc-Andre Bédard. He was born in Beauport, Quebec on February 19th, 1986. He is 23 years old and will celebrate his 24th birthday on February 19th during the 2010 Winter Olympics. He lives in Valcariter, Quebec, Canada.

Marc-Andre’s sport is the biathlon which he began at the age of 14 years old. An athlete that does biathlon is called a biathlete. He started to do biathlon when he was 14 years old. He has a role model which is Myriam Bédard. Myriam is a 1994 Olympic gold medalist. In 2004, Marc-André competed in his first relay event which was in a European race. Later, in 2006, it was his first individual race. Then, in 2008, he won in first place in a sprint event of the European Cup race. Continue reading

Quebec Olympic Athletes: Martin Pierre Brodeur | Vancouver 2010

Martin Pierre Brodeur was born on May 6th, 1972. He is a Canadian ice hockey goalie and is quite a bit athlete at 6 feet 2 inches and 216 pounds. Being a goalie must have been in his blood because his father was also a goalie; Denis Brodeur.

Hockey is really cool because you can express yourself in skating and shooting pucks. Because sometimes I get a bit mad but when I do hockey everything that is mad gets out.

Sometimes I go with my Dad in the morning in the arena beside my school and I could shoot pucks with my friends and my dad. The rink is outside and its a bit old The ice is not like in the inside arena but it is still fun playing with my family. It’s different because the ice has a lot more bumps and it’s smaller than a real one. Continue reading
