Advent Calendar Christmas Trees by Jordyn (gr.6)

At Christmas me, my sister, mother and father go in the car to buy a Christmas tree at a farm. The farm is beautiful. The trees are all cut and lined up. We go there because we have more choices and it is a more natural place to go. Plus the air is way more cleaner than at Canadian Tire when you’re trying to find a funny, coloured plastic tree to put in your living room!

Our Christmas tree is a natural one. We take natural trees because they bring a good smell and are better looking than artificial ones. I really like the smell because you can imagine that you are at camping with the trees, the semll and the beautiful land and animals.

We usually put our tree in the living room because on Christmas morning when we opent he gifts in the living room we could see the beautiful tree at the same time. When we decorate our tree we don’t have a style but more a theme like red and green glass balls that bring full of memories. It is like putting memories on a tree.

Something else we do is to go see my other part of my family which lives in the Beauce. We go there to help my grandma make her tree because my grandpa passed away and my grandma has a lot of work to do.

It’s finally the 19th of December !!! Me and my family are going to get a natural tree for Christmas. The 19th of December is like a holiday to me and my mom because it’s like I could do whatever I want on the 19th.

When I go to Botanix for my tree on the way there from a distance I can see the biggest trees sticking up. When we enter the parking lot we see the big gates tto the entrance. When I step in I can see over 100 trees or more. I could smell the freshness of the trees. I could feel all small pines under my feet as I am walking. That’s why I call this day a holiday.

After about 10 to 15 minutes of having fun we start to look at the trees to figure out the special tree we will have for Christmas. It takes me and my mom forever to get over Christmas trees because there are about 300 or more trees to choose from. The way my tree is, is big, round, tall and fluffy with lots of pine needles and no holes in it it. I also look at if it smells because some smell more than others. I prefer the non smelling ones because they lose their pines less quickly than the smelly ones. I also ask myself if the branches are strong enough to support the weight of the ornaments. This is so important because if one branch breaks there is white, thick, sticky sap that comes out and it falls on the ornaments and makes them sticky.

After we bought the tree we try to squeeze it through the front door and into the living room. We drill 2 holes on the  bottom of the tree so it doesn’t dry out and we have like a stand for the tree so it can stand up.

Every year we have to move our T.V. The tree goes beside the fireplace because it’s my mom’s tradition from when she was young.

In the cold December me and my family go out to find a beautiful bushy green tree. When we go to the shop, we usually spend almost an hour looking for the best tree they’ve got.

My father doesn’t care which one is picked, so he usually talks to the person that works at the shop. My brother walks with me and my mom through all the beautiful trees and asks which one is good. My mom is kinda picky with her trees. It could be too short or to long or even there would be a spot in the tree that’s bare. If I really like a tree and ask if we could take it, my mom usually says no because it’s not perfect. But after all that we always get the perfect, beautiful bushy natural tree.

My father and my brother pick the tree up and lift it into the back of my truck. When we get home, my father hauls it inside through the front door, my brotehr grabs the trunk and tries to help. We lay it in the center of the living room and my father drills ahole at the bottom of it. Me and my mom put it into the stand and we wait for all the branches to fall into place. While my family is waiting, I alwayts hve to vacuum the pines that fall on the stairs. I’m always anxious to decoreate the tree, sometimes I nag my mom to decorate the tree. She gets mad at me, but I don’t mind.

Las year we put the ree in a corner, where our closet is. Now I’m not sure because there is a lot of stuff in that spot.
