  1. This is a really nice project. You should be proud of it!

History is so important-we need to understand where we came from before we can really appreciate where we are now, and where we will be tomorrow.

    Thank you for your work!

  2. Hello. I don’t know how I missed this site before. I check out your other site regularly.
I think this is a great project. The earlier the families start their research the more family members will be available. I always hear people say “I wish I had taken an interest while they were still alive to talk to”.

  3. Hi there guys.
I love the site. Taught me a lot about Igloo’s and all things Quebec. I’m from Sydney, Australia and I love the drawing that you have of the village of Igloo’s (the black + white one). I like it so much that I was wondering if you could direct me to the artist that drew it so I could get authorization to use it as an album cover for my band.

I’ll be waiting in anticipation for your reply

    Thanks

    Lucas

  4. I am looking for some help translating hand written documents that are in French. I am helping a friend with his Ontario/Quebec family. Any suggestions?

  7. Hi Evelyn ,

I’m working on a student publication – and I am trying to figure out this depo masthead theme. Can you please give me a couple quick pointers?

I’m trying to put images in my posts and can’t figure out how its done.

Thanks for the help, and please get back to me at arielk@umich.edu

    Warmest Regards

  8. you may want to add more questions to the website but your website is good.

  9. You could maybe ask peoples what their favourite sport is and make a poll out of it.

    • That’s a great idea, Jorge. Why don’t you find a friend or two to help you formulate your question.
Note: Your question needs to be clear – do you mean people’s favourite sport to watch or favourite sport to participate in? Also you need multiple choice answers.
When your question is ready I’ll show you how to design a poll and publish it on the site.
Congratulations – you’re doing the first poll by a Grade 5 student!

  10. I noticed that one of your students had Tremblay ancestors. I have done a lot of research on my Noel ancestors from Quebec, which includes the Tremblays. My research can be found at my website: http://www.angelfire.com/ma3/noelofbrockton/index.html. If you think this could be a resource for some of your budding genealogists, please feel free to have them reference it; and also to contact me if I can clarify anythig or answer any questions. Nothing would please me more than to have helped one of your students in their research.

  11. I have done a lot of research on my Noel family from Quebec, and have quite a bit of information on my website (www.angelfire.com/ma3/noelofbrockton/index.html). There might be something there that could help one of your students in their family research. I would be happy to clarify or assist with any questions they might have about the information. Nothing would please me more than to have my research assist one of your students in this projects. Thank you, Jolynn

  12. Thank you very much for both your offers, Jolynn. I’ll let this year’s batch of students know and when they start their family history project they’ll know they can contact you!

  13. I am looking for information on the Morel (Morelle?) family who around 1910 lived in a large farmhouse in or near Ste. Anne de Beaupré. They took in paying guests during the summer. I am editing my mother’s autobiography. Brought up in Ontario, my mother stayed at the farmhouse as a guest aged about 5 young child for some months in 1910 and spoke very warmly of the family and the people of the region.

    Could you point me to

    a) a source on this family

    b) a photograph of either the farmhouse itself or of a typical French Canadian farmhouse of the era and region?

    Many thanks – Isabel Henniger

  14. Kudos to you and your students Mrs. Theriault! This is a great blog and you all should be very proud of your accomplishments. There is nothing like connecting to our family history. It helps us to know who we are and to take pride in all that our ancestors have done.

  15. WOW! I wish any one of my teachers had assigned us such a project. I hope your young ones will always treasure their work.

    • Hi Darlene,

I am one of Mrs. Theriault’s students. I find it really fun to be commenting, posting, etc, on a blog. If you want, you can create your own website. I don’t know how many steps there are to make a website, but I know the first one: search: http://wordpress.com/
      Have fun!!! :)

  16. G’day Mrs Theriault and students,
Welcome to the world of blogging. I hope you do join in our student blogging challenge in September 2010. At the end of August I will be putting in a google form for classes to register on at http://studentchallenge.edublogs.org This list of classes will then be shown on a page on the same blog, similar to what happened in March challenge.

  17. G’day Mrs Theriault and class,
Thanks for joining the September 2010 blogging challenge. I hope you enjoy the activities and if you have any suggestions for what a challenge could be, please leave a comment on the challenge blog.

  18. I am looking forward to hearing your news and views. I am a teacher of a year 5/6 class in Adelaide, South Australia. We hope to get an idea of life in Canada.

Note from Mrs. Theriault: Answering by email.

  19. Thank you so much for visiting my students’ blogs today! My students will be thrilled!
We’ll be visiting your blogs and leaving comments soon.
Blogging is so important. My students really enjoy it. I hope you enjoy this adventure too.

  20. Hi
you left a comment on on jayvan’s blog right? Well everybody will be scared. Because it will look alien sort of world. Anyways if you enter it your space ship might blow up.

  21. What a terrific site! What a terrific project! I’ve learned so much about Quebec and what goes on at your wonderful school.

Your teacher, Evelyn Yvonne Theriault, recently subscribed to my French Social History blog. If I can assist your project in anyway just let me know (like seeing if you can up with my local village school in Central, France (37)) and I’ll see what I can do.
    Good luck with your project,
    Jim

  22. Hi
Just another brief note – just so I can click on the ‘Notify me of all new posts’ check box and receive any replies!
