FYI – Mathematics Review

As you know we’ll be having a Math Test on Monday, November 15th that will cover most of the basic skills that we have worked on since the beginning of the year. This is a list of what you need to know for the test, along with the dates when when each concept will be reviewed in class.

Note: There will be no word problems on this test. You will have as much time (within reason) as you need to complete the test.

ADDITION & SUBTRACTION (Review Mon. Nov.8th)

Natural and decimal numbers

Determine the sum/difference between two numbers (natural and decimal) of up to four digits

Examples:

4398 + 3654 = _________

9463 – 7234 = _______

4719 + 2.6 = __________

5324 – 3.683 = _________

Missing term in an equation involving natural numbers (algebra)

MULTIPLICATION & DIVISION (Review Tues. Nov.9th)

Natural numbers

Determine the product of a three-digit number and a two-digit number. Determine the quotient of a four-digit number and a two-digit number.

Decimals

Determine the product of an operation involving a decimal in which the product does not go beyond the second decimal place. Divide a decimal by a natural number up to 10.

Comparing Numbers (Thurs., Nov. 11th)

Conversion of decimals to fractions (over 10,100 or 1000) and fractions to decimals

Expresses a decimal as a fraction

Example:

3.4 = 3 and 4/10

.65 = 65/100

1.598 = 1 and 598/1000

Compare and order numbers (both natural and decimal)

Examples:

Compare 9 < 12, 2+2 = 4, 4.6 > 2

Order 2.4, 2.03, 0.403
